談乙太網路(Ethernet)之前，應該先談跨領域，因為「乙太」起源自古典哲學、理論物理學。
亞里斯多德的著作《論天》描述物質的生與滅，並認為世界由5大元素構成：冷(液體)、熱(能量)、乾(固體)、濕(氣體)、乙太(神聖物質)。
當時亞里斯多德認為乙太能夠組成行星，它是一種「圓的運動」；一直到19世紀受到古典哲學影響，科學家假設某種物質是作為光的介質，名「乙太」。
牛頓也認為乙太存在，但它可能是複雜的物質才能產生電、磁與重力的現象，但是後來愛因斯坦的《狹義相對論》推翻了乙太學說，不過某種計算機網路(computer network)也在那個年代誕生，就是乙太網路。
乙太網路其實有2個版本，不過是我的個人說法，沒有人這樣講；現在使用的乙太網路技術標準IEEE 802.3是整個乙太網路的第2版，然而第1版是失敗的網路技術，也沒有成為電腦網路標準，所以第幾版純粹是我的個人講法；就像現在普遍使用的IPv4也有前身，但是那個前身當時還只是實驗用途，且定址數量極少。(好像是個位數，印象中不超過10部計算機)

Discuss other field before Ethernet, because 「ether」originated from Ancient philosophy, Theoretical physics.
Aristotle's writing 《On the Heavens》that described born and destroy of substance. He thought the world consists of 5 elements：liquid、energy、solid、gas、ether (sacred something).
At then, Aristotle thought a planet consist of ether, and it is 「circling activity」; By Ancient philosophy effect after 19th century. Scientist presumed something be medium of light, named「ether」.
Isaac Newton approved ether is exists, but it maybe a complex substance that form electricity, magnetic and gravity for appearance.
However, Albert Einstein's writing 《Special relativity》broke ether theory. But some computer network born following from that, we call ethernet.
In fact, ethernet has 2 version, but is state myself. IEEE 802.3 ethernet standard is entire ethernet 2nd version, 1st was failure and not become computer network standard. So number version is state for myself purely.
Such as IPv4 has also predecessor, however that was based experimental at then, and addressing number is very fewer. (maybe less than 10 hosts)
